Prof. W.B. LEE, Centre Director

Prof. W.B. Lee is the Chair Professor of the Department of the Industrial and Systems Engineering of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Director of the Knowledge Management Research Centre, and Director of the HKPolyU-Microsoft Enterprise Systems Centre.  He is currently a council member of the Hong Kong Productivity Council, a member of the assessment panel of the Innovation and Technology Fund, an advisor of the Hong Kong Science Museum of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department.  Prof. Lee is the editor of the Journal of  Information and  Knowledge Management Systems, and International Journal of Knowledege and Systems Science  as well as the Associate Editor of the  International  Journal of Asian  Business and Information Management. He established the Knowledge Solution Laboratory, the first of its kind in Hong Kong and has pioneered research and practice of knowledge management and knowledge audit in various organizations which include manufacturing, trading, public utilities, various government departments and health care.  Prof. Lee and his team have launched Asia’s first on-line MSc. Program in Knowledge Management.  His research interest includes manufacturing systems, knowledge management, organizational learning and intellectual capital-based management.

  
 

Prof. Eric TSUI, Associate Director (Business Development)

Professor of Knowledge Management of the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Prof. Tsui was formerly Chief Research Officer, Asia Pacific, in Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) (2000-5). He joined CSC in 1989 after years of academic research in automated knowledge acquisition, natural language processing, case-based reasoning and knowledge engineering tools. His research was supported by grants and scholarships from Arthur Young, Rank Xerox, CSC, Graphic Directions, and the Australian Research Council. He was also a gratis visitor to Microsoft Research in February, 2000. Between August 2000 and January 2005, he assumed the roles of Innovation Manager at Australian Mutual Provident (AMP) and Maybank, two strategic outsourcing accounts at CSC in the Asia Pacific region. Eric was responsible for strategic research, knowledge brokering (between CSC and the clients), innovation management and university-industry collaborations. During his tenure at CSC, he had made significant contributions to CSC's expert systems products, applied research, Portal community leadership, and innovation programs. Eric has designed and delivered many KM and Portals workshops for government departments including CSTDI, Health, Land Registry, OGCIO and EPD.

  
 

Dr. Benny CHEUNG, Associate Director (Research)

Dr. Cheung is an active researcher with an emphasis on industry related and applied research. Currently, he is an Associate Professor and an Associate Director of the Knowledge Management Research Centre in The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He is also an Adjunct Professor of Harbin Institute of Technology Shenzhen Graduate School in China. His research interest in Knowledge Management includes Knowledge Management Strategy, Knowledge Audit and Practice, Managing and Measuring Intellectual Capital, Taxonomy, Collaborative Technologies, Expert/Knowledge-based Systems and Artificial Intelligence. Representative research projects include “A Knowledge-based Case Management System for Positive Intervention in Non-government social welfare organizations (NGOs)” and “Development of a Multi-perspective Knowledge-based System for Enterprise Resources Planning”. He also possesses extensive experience in undertaking knowledge audit projects in various prestigious companies in Hong Kong such as Johnson Electric, Hong Kong Dragon Airlines Ltd., CLP Power, Baptist OI Kwan Social Service, etc. He has authored and co-authored 5 research books, 4 book chapters and more than 190 research papers in various international journals and international conferences. Currently, he is a member of Editorial Advisory & Review Board of The Open Virtual Reality Journal. He had served as a member in various committees in a number of international conferences such as International Conference on Intellectual Capital, Knowledge Management and Organizational Learning (ICICKM2007), The 3rd Asia-Pacific International Conference on Knowledge Management (KMAP2006), etc.
  
 

Dr. Ruizhang Kathy HUANG, Lecturer

Dr Huang obtained her Mphil. degree in the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Department of Systems Engineering & Engineering Management in 2003, and her PhD. degree in the same University in 2008. From the year 2007, she joined the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Dr Huang is an active researcher on the area of Data Mining, Text Mining, Machine Learning, Information Retrieval, Artificial Intelligence, and Knowledge System. She has conducted many research works in a variety of directions such as mining unseen named entity translations, semi-supervised document clustering, hierarchical incremental document clustering, active learning for clustering, and language modeling etc. She has published a number of papers including some prestigious journals and conferences.

  
 

Dr. Ying LIU, Assistant Professor

Dr. Ying Liu obtained his Ph.D. from the Singapore MIT Alliance (SMA) at the National University of Singapore in 2006. His current research interests focus on design informatics, data mining and text mining, intelligent information processing and management, machine learning, and their joint applications in engineering design, manufacturing and medical and healthcare industry for knowledge discovery and management purpose. He is the lead editor for the book “Advances of Computational Intelligence in Industrial Systems” Springer 2008 and he has served as the lead guest editor for several journals like Journal of Intelligent Manufacturing and Information Systems Frontiers. He is a member of ACM, IEEE, ASME and the Design Society.

 

 

 Dr. Kris LAW, Instructor

Kris M Y Law has obtained her bachelor degree in engineering, MPhil degree in engineering technology and her PhD in organizational learning and development from the City University of Hong Kong. Dr. Law was a post-doctoral fellow at the Graduate Institute of Industrial Engineering of National Taiwan University in 2008. Prior to her postgraduate study, she had worked in the testing industry for some years. Her research interests are in the areas of organizational learning and development, innovation and knowledge strategies, sustainable development in high-tech industries and engineering education. She has a wealth of hands-on project experiences which are gained through the consultancy and training projects throughout the region. She is also the honorary advisor of the China Centre for Labour and Environment, a subsidiary of a multinational certification body, specializing in sustainable development and responsible supply chain.

 

 

 Dr. Wai Ming WANG, Tutor

Dr W.M. Wang has obtained BEng degree in the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Department of Manufacturing Engineering, and his PhD in the same University. Dr Wang is an active researcher in the area of  computational intelligence, computer modeling of social theories, decision support systems and knowledge engineering. His research results have been published in various international journals and conferences. Some of them have been published in prestigious international journals such as Information Processing and Management, Expert Systems with Applications, Knowledge-based systems, etc.

 

 

Dr. Patrick FONG, Knowledge Management Specialist

Dr Fong is an Associate Professor in the Department of Building & Real Estate of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He is a member of the Research Centre for Construction Innovation and the Knowledge Management Research Centre. He is a Chartered Quantity Surveyor with working experiences in the UK and Hong Kong as well as a practising value management professional. Patrick is an editorial board member of the online publication, Journal for Education in the Built Environment (JEBE), from September 2006 to present. He is also Specialty Editor for the American Society of Civil Engineers’ (ASCE) Journal of Construction Engineering and Management, responsible for Labour and Personnel Issues since October 2005. Patrick’s research interests include knowledge management and project management. He co-edited a book entitled “Management of Knowledge in Project Environments”, published by Elsevier/Butterworth-Heinemann in 2005. He was Vice President of the Hong Kong Knowledge Management Society. He is also a member of the international body, CIB W102 - Information and Knowledge Management in Building, a Visiting Research Scholar in Knowledge Management of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, and an Erasmus Mundus Scholar at UmeĆ„ University, Sweden. He is also named in MARQUIS Who’s Who in the World, 2007.

 

 

Dr. Adela LAU, Knowledge Management Specialist

Dr. Adela Lau is the Assistant Professor of School of Nursing at PolyU and is the editor-in-chief of the international journal of knowledge engineering and data mining. Her specialties include ontology engineering, knowledge-based system and technology, medical/health informatics and business intelligence. She has extensive experience in knowledge audit, strategies formulation and technology deployment through consultancy projects in government and industrial sectors such as taxonomy creation for the Environment Protection Department of HKSAR Government and KM strategy formulation and portal deployment for the Leo Paper Group. She also actively participated in the research projects and activities including taxonomy creation and maintenance, ontology building, mapping and integration, ontology-based case reasoning and medical knowledge discovery.

 

 

Mr. Zeno LEUNG, Knowledge Management Specialist

Mr. Zeno Leung is the Lecturer of the Department of Applied Social Sciences at PolyU. His specialties include social policies with young people, web-assisted learning, information and knowledge management of human services. He has extensive experience in knowledge audit, case-based reasoning system and portal development for social service organizations. He has actively participated research projects collaborated with the ISE.
 

 

Ms. Nicole SY, Knowledge Management Specialist

Ms Sy was a Knowledge Manager in PCCW Ltd. Ms Sy's KM  specializations are: information and knowledge audits, developing and implementing KM strategies/KM System, KM process development and implementation of KM tools. Recently, Ms Sy has been providing KM consultancy services to various industries in Hong Kong. She is a significant contributor to KM Strategic Planning in Child Assessment Service of Department of Health, Document Management System evaluation at DragonAir, and Knowledge Audit at CLP. Ms Sy is the Program Leader of Certified Knowledge Professionals.

 


Dr. Hailong Zhu, Knowledge Management Specialist

Dr Zhu is an Assistant Professor in Research Institute of Innovative Products and Technologies of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. . He is an adjunct faculty of the Laboratory Harvard Catalyst Laboratory for Innovative Translational Technologies of Harvard Medical School. He is a member of the Hong Kong Knowledge Management Society and the Knowledge Management Center. He is currently leading a number of projects in the area of decision support and medical informatics, bioinformatics and biometrics. He is the chief architect of a number of software systems, including the DOEViewTM (a system for data sampling, collection, management and analysis system for industrial production which has been used in General Electric), CDSS (a system for medical knowledge authoring, management, inferencing, and updating). His research interests include knowledge management, machine learning, data mining and biomedical modeling, etc.

Miss Teresa LIEW, Project Associate

Miss Teresa Liew Bao Yng received her B.S degree in Information Technology from Multimedia University, Malaysia in 2004 and her MSc degree in Image Processing and Visual Contents from Dongseo University, Busan, Korea in 2008. From 2004 to 2005, she was with Multimedia University, Malaysia where she was involved in E-learning project. She also worked with DiGi Telecommunication Malaysia during the year 2005-2006 as consultant for Dealer Support Department. Her research interests include e-learning, image processing and image compression. Currently, she is actively involved in applying scenario builder tools and virtual world tools into e-learning projects.
 


Miss Cherie LUI, Assistant Project Officer

Miss Cherei Lui obtained her BSc in BBA Information Systems in 2004, from the City University of Hong Kong. Prior to joining the KMRC, she worked as a training coordinator at Hong Kong Disneyland and a training officer at the Body Shop. She assists in the supervision of industrial based KM projects, KM consultancies as well as training.

 


Mr. Donald CHIU, Project Assistant

Mr Donald Chiu received his BEng degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2009. His interests include e-Learning and Knowledge Management. He is also involved in a Knowledge  Management project in the Hospital Authority, a well-known organisation in Hong Kong.

 


Miss Tracy CHOW, Project Assistant

Miss Tracy Chow received her BSc degree in Enterprise Engineering and E-Business from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University with first-class honors in 2005. From 2005 to the present, she has been actively involved in research on organizational and team learning, team mental model and narrative simulations. Her article of eliciting consumer mental model was shortlisted by International Journal of Market Research as the finalist for the Best Paper Award 2008. Tracy also possesses practical project experience in market research atGroup Sense Ltd and in Knowledge Audit at China Light and Power.
 
 
 Mr. Farzad SABETZADEH, Research Assistant
Mr. Farzad Sabetzadeh attained his MBA with concentration of IT management from Multimedia University, Malaysia in 2008, followed after his BSc. in Industrial engineering from Azad University, Iran in 2003. He’s worked as a market researcher in Malaysia in 2008 and been involved as a senior KM consultant in different projects at THQ Consulting, Iran during 2008-2009. His research interests are in different disciplines ranging from system dynamics and complex systems to human behavior and social science for KM tool development. At present, he’s working on clustered approaches in online collaborative systems and contriving interceptive modules to gauge slanted knowledge sharing preferences.
